Campsite near La Mure

Just 15 minutes from Camping Le Champ Long, La Mure is a great idea for a local day out. A former mining town perched at an altitude of 880 metres, it has a charming mountain-town atmosphere, with shops, a discreet heritage and a unique attraction: the recently reopened Train de La Mure.

A not-to-be-missed ride on the Train de La Mure

La Mure remains a lively center of local life, with a pleasant market, good bakeries, simple restaurants and cafés with terraces. The cobbled town center is pleasant to explore on foot. Don’t miss the neo-Romanesque church, the old covered market or the trompe-l’œil frescoes depicting scenes from mining life.

In summer, festivals, open-air concerts and family events take place in the town and on the Place du Champ de Foire.

The Matheysin Museum

Only 15 minutes from the campsite by car

Located in La Mure, in the heart of the old town, nestles the Maison Caral, home to the Musée Matheysin since 1994. The La Mure museum houses collections relating to the Matheysine, Beaumont and Valbonnais regions. Archaeology (prehistory, Gallo-Roman and medieval periods) and the Wars of Religion (Siege of La Mure in 1580) precede the rooms devoted to miners, farmers, glaziers and peddlers. These activities made the reputation of this mid-mountain region between Grenoble and Gap. The final rooms focus on regional sculptors and painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Each season, a new temporary exhibition is presented to the public. Guided tours are organized on request for groups and school classes (by appointment).
The museum organizes free open days in May (“Musées en fête”) and September (“Journées européennes du Patrimoine”).
